Help raise $7000 to support the International Tribunal of Conscience in Mexico

Please help support the International Tribunal of Conscience in Mexico. The NLG is participating in organizing this tribunal and a number of NLG members, including President Natasha Bannan, will be participating in the Tribunal of Conscience. Please consider supporting the Tribunal and sharing this information with others who may be interested.

Support the Tribunal: https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MjEwOTM=

Where: “La 72” Franciscan Migrant Shelter in Tenosique, and at the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers College in Guerrero, Mexico.

Why: Justice for the missing 43 and their families as well as the countless migrants who died while traveling through Mexico in hopes of a better life.

Please donate and/or host a fundraiser for the Tribunal to fund the needed travel and expense of hosting attorneys, scholars and artists who place themselves in great harm speaking out against the atrocities of their governments. Your contributions will allow those who cannot pay for their travel to present their testimonies before a jury of peers. Contributions will also assist in costs related to logistics and interpretation.

The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) will convene the International Tribunal of Conscience of Peoples in Movement (ITCPM) in Mexico from September 21 to September 28th, 2017.  The sessions will respectively be at: the “La 72,” the Franciscan shelter for migrants in transit located at Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala, in Tenosique, Tabasco (which was named in commemoration of the 72 migrants in transit from 6 countries who were victims of the 2010 San Fernando Massacre), and at the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers College in the Mexican region of Guerrero where the missing 43 students studied.

The Tribunal seeks to facilitate participatory dialogues and processes between juries and grassroots communities in Mexico that wish to hold the Mexican and U.S. states accountable for their convergent responsibilities in Mexico’s deepening human rights crisis. These testimonies will form the basis of a motion of contempt against the Mexican and U.S. governments for their failure to take effective actions in response to the recommendations adopted at previous hearings regarding these issues held in Mexico between 2011 and 2015 and in New York in September 2015.

I am reaching out to see if you can help.  I am asking for you to consider organizing a movie night, dinner for two, weekend getaway, happy hour drinks, or a case of wine to help me close the $7,000 gap in funding.  Here is what I have been up too:

I have been working with the National Lawyers Guild International sub-committee on Meso-America.  We are holding two Tribunal of Conscience in Mexico from September 23 to September 30, 2017.   Seventeen days away.   For more information go to: www.internationaltribunalofconscience.org   We have raised some funds, but are trying to close a $7,000 gap.

  • We have 23 people attending the Tenosique, Southern Border of Mexico, part of the tribunal to address immigration issues.
  • We have over 60 people attending the Guerrero, Ayotzinapa, part of the Tribunal to address impunity and the disappearance of 43 indigenous students who were being trained to be teachers.
  • We have 4 artists and 6 human rights defenders from Mexico who need our assistances for travel and cost.
  • We have raised $2,600 so far in donations ranging from $500 to $25.
  • Each of the 10 US participants is contributing $1,000 toward their participation.
  • However, we are $7,000 short of our fundraising goal.

I am therefore writing to friends and family to contribute what they can.

  • The artist will be providing healing workshops for the parents of the 43 disappeared students.
  • The human right defenders will be providing testimony and/or be jurors on the tribunal.

I am attaching the tax-deductible donation link for your consideration.  If you have the time, please become a fundraiser by tapping the fundraiser option on the link below and fill out the boxes.  The site does the rest for you by connecting to your Facebook and sending out a request.

Thank you for your consideration.  We cannot do this without the support of the international community.
