The American war against Vietnam shaped the generations of the 60's and 70s. The Vietnam war as well as current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been among the reasons many of us chose the path of seeking peace and promoting human rights.
The IADL Congress in Vietnam is a chance for progressive lawyers to:
– Visit a country whose people fought for and won its national liberation in a long battle against the United States,
– Meet lawyers and jurists from all over the world who are working for the same goals as we but in their countries, and whose efforts will allow us to put our work in a broader and more universal context,
– Share our thoughts and ideas with members of the world community. Build networks with lawyers working on similar issues throughout the world,
– Build international solidarity among lawyers and promote joint action on issues of common concern,
– Address issues of current concern to the international community to advance the voice of progressive lawyers in this important discourse.
