Letter to President Obama"What we need is justice" - Mirta Rodriguez, mother of Antonio Guerrero Dear President Obama, The Cuban Five are five Cuban men who are in US prison, serving four life sentences and 75 years collectively, after being wrongfully convicted in U.S. federal court in Miami, on June 8, 2011. They are Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, Ramon Labanino Salazar, Antonio Guerrero Rodriguez, Fernando Gonzalez Llort and Rene Gonzalez Sehwerert. On Mothers' Day we call on you to grant clemency and release the Cuban 5. They have been imprisoned for protecting the right of the Cuban people against terrorist acts. Their family members have been denied visas for years. On Mothers' Day, these men belong home with their mothers, wives, children and loved ones. In the words of former President Jimmy Carter, "I believe that there is no reason to keep the Cuban Five imprisoned, there were doubts in the U.S. courts and also among human rights organizations in the world. Now, they have been in prison 12 years and I hope that in the near future they will be released to return home." I urge you to grant executive clemency for the Cuban Five.
