On Monday, November 30, the National Lawyers Guild International Committee and the International Association of Democratic Lawyers hosted a webinar on AFRICOM and U.S. militarism in Africa, featuring Prof. Horace Campbell and moderated by NLG IC Steering Committee member Kerry McLean. The webinar includes a detailed historical, political and legal analysis of the role of AFRICOM and the necessity of challenging it.
The United States Africa Command, or AFRICOM, was established in 2007. The United States government claimed that part of AFRICOM’s mission was to promote peace and security in Africa. Yet in the years since its inception AFRICOM has launched military strikes in African countries, and has faced accusations that some of its activities have amounted to war crimes. Join us for a discussion exploring the scope and reach of AFRICOM , and the struggle to get US military forces out of Africa.
