The following report was issued by the Inter-American Legal Delegation to Argentina, which took place from June 7 to 14, 2018. National Lawyers Guild member Thomas Egan participated in the delegation along with two Canadian and two Colombian lawyers. The delegation was sponsored by two Argentine human rights organizations, the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights and the Committee for the Liberation of Milagro Sala.

Milagro Sala, leader of the Tupac Amaru Neighborhood Organization, a co-operative organization of indigenous and marginalized communities, and a member of the Parlasur, has been detained since January 2016 for protesting outside the government house. She has remained detained on “preventive” grounds for over 2 1/2 years.

The legal delegation investigated the situation of Milagro Sala and other detainees in Argentina today, especially insofar as the current government is using the legal system to attack grassroots organizations.
