November 16: Reportback from People’s Tribunals on the Philippines and Puerto Rico

Friday, November 16
6:00 pm
LaGuardia Community College
Building E, Room 242
31-10 Thomson Ave
Queens, NY

The International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines NE is joining forces with those who attended the International People’s Tribunal in Brussels, Belgium for the Philippines AND here in New York City for Puerto Rico.

An International People’s Tribunal is an opportunity for the international community to come together to hear the firsthand accounts and witnesses of human rights violations and come to verdict of jurors who are activists, honorable public figures, and leaders in the fight for just and lasting peace.

In the past 2 months, TWO very important International People’s Tribunal took place, one to condemn the various violations of the Filipino people and the other on the US colonial crimes on Puerto Rico.

ON NOVEMBER 16, you will have the opportunity to join panelists who served as jurors and observers at each of these IPTs, including Azadeh Shahshahani of Project South, former President of the National Lawyers Guild. They will speak with us about their firsthand experience on the importance of conducting an International People’s Tribunal, understanding what the verdict is, and how to hold the governments who violate human rights accountable for their grave and severe actions.

We will be asking for a $5-10 sliding scale entrance fee to continue to fundraise for the delegates we sent to attend the IPT in Brussels, Belgium, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds!

We hope you are able to attend, there will be refreshments and child care available for attendees! Just be sure to RSVP here on FB or at www.bit.ly/IPTReportback.

Please also feel free to email ICHRP Northeast Regional Coordinator Shilpa Nandwani at snandwani0828@gmail.com if you have any questions, concerns, or want to co-sponsor the event with us!
