Join us for a conversation and training on observing elections in the United States and applying international election observation standards.

This workshop will be presented by Dr. Keith Jennings, a human rights and democratic governance specialist with extensive experience in international election observation. Kerry McLean, NLG IC steering committee member, will host the workshop.

DR. KEITH JENNINGS is a human rights and democratic governance specialist. He currently serves as President of the African American Center for Global Politics and Human Rights (AACHR). AACHR is based in Atlanta, Georgia. It functions as a think tank and campaign clearing house on global political issues and human rights concerns for the African American community. AACHR is especially focused on human rights challenges affecting people of African descent in the Americas. Among the organization’s key objectives are advancing public understanding of international affairs, promoting unity and solidarity among African descendant peoples globally; combating racism, racial discrimination, and xenophobia; and developing a new generation of African descendant human rights defenders.

Dr. Jennings possesses over 25 years of domestic and international experience in promoting democratic governance and respect for international human rights standards. He has traveled extensively, to more than 70 countries on four continents, and lived and worked in Africa and Asia. He also has participated in and spoken at international forums and conferences sponsored by the African Union (AU), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations (UN).

Dr. Jennings has been an adjunct professor at Georgia Institute of Technology Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, Howard University’s Department of Political Science, American University’s School of International Service, Morehouse School of Medicine, Addis Ababa University’s Center on Human Rights, and Clark Atlanta University’s Department of Political Science, where he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses on U.S. Foreign Policy, African Politics, Health and Human Rights, International Relations, Pan-Africanism, and Black Politics. He is the author of scholarly and popular articles and also a frequent media commentator on international affairs. Dr. Jennings also currently serves on the Editorial Board of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Journal of the Center for Policy Analysis, and as a Co-chair of the U.S. Human Rights Network’s Taskforce on the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD).

KERRY MCLEAN is a member of the IC steering committee. She is an international human rights lawyer who has observed elections in Cambodia, Venezuela, El Salvador, Honduras, Abkhazia and the United States.
